Like many initial announcements for expansions, Tyrannis is cryptically lacking in details. I’ll be interested to see what it brings at least, since the planetary interactions shpiel sounded kind of cool. Looking at the details outlined so far, it should serve a purpose in the ‘industry’ side of things, but the question is: what?
We already lubs our moon goo for t2, and we already farm those Sleeper bastards for our t3. Ores/refineables for t1, and wrecks for rigs. Surely this means that they will be adding something else entirely into the mix that gives people an incentive to do the micromanagement god-sim thing? It can’t be for Incarna, since that’s not coming out until (at least) much later in the year, so there’d be no drive for it – it has to be something in Tyrannis itself… Right?
Exploration too. That’ll be cool. As long as they keep the mechanics in place for regular exploration, I’ll not have to get cranky about stuff changing every five minutes. Perfectly happy with some new means of scanning when it comes to planetary bodies though; that much makes sense.
Eve Gate, aka New Eden, aka COSMOS, is coming along with this stuff too. Mail and calendars. Yay – I can organise my POS fuelling in an Eve-themed thingy rather than Mozilla Thunderbird. If it is capable of spamming me when my POS are hungry though, by god I’ll buy the devs directly responsible for it several beers! The social networking side of things I’ll reserve judgement for until I can see it in action. Social anything is something very hard to get right, and very easy to get horribly, horribly wrong (Google Buzz, anyone?)
When’s it out? That’s the big question. Once again, vague in the answer there ‘before the solstice’, which leads me to the conclusion that we’re looking at Tuesday 15th June deployment – in-keeping with their Tuesday deployment strategy. Of course, this is all speculation!
So, the key things to know for this expansion: Planets, Exploration, Industry, Eve Gate. Comes out in early summer. Nickname: Tyrannisaurus Wrecks… whaaat? 😛
